Live from Sir Pizza the 2010 Pittsburgh NABA draft has had some unprecedented occurrences. The Hurricanes and Bulldogs pulled off the first ever draft time trade when the Bulldogs traded a pick for two future Hurricane picks. Vinny Gala of the Bulldogs was quoted as saying "F***".

Season Set to Start Sometime Around the 17th of April: League Meeting and draft stuff.

Rafalski vs. Ducks

The Hurricanes are out for blood against the Black Sox this season.

Rumor has it Kenny Powers neared fisticuffs with the Rafalski's leader at a local watering hole over the weekend.

Who would have thought the Cane's and Sox would engage in such behavior?
Shocking.
The 'Canes manager must not know about Kenny's training regime.



Things are going to get heated this season.
I can't wait for more Eastbound and Down so i have some new youtube clips to use.

anyway, sincere congrats to the Canes for winning the title last season.
I look for the Buldogs to take the Campbell Conference this season, basically due to their collective sense of humor.
They are in mid-season form


The Bulldogs blog has been much more active than i have (
i'll get back in the swing come the end of the semester ) and consider the Ducks and Black Sox the favorites going into the season.

The Militia will be tough.
The team with the best regular seaosn record last year has dispersed primarily into the Sox and Ducks, with a few guys scattered about the rest of the league.

Which leads me to the realignment issue.

Were going to A and AA this season.
this is a good move.

In Graff we trust

We will be able to attract and retain more players this way.

The AA Division will be broken into Wales and Campbell Conferences again.

Campbell Conference: Fightin's, Bulldogs, Warriors, ? Bombers/Matadors/Pythons (?) I forget who the 4th team is, the Oilers have moved down to A where they will play with three teams about whom i know nothing.


The Wales Conference is a three horse race already with the Sox, Ducks, and Millitia looking to try to avoid losing 8am games to the Eagles, who are rebuilding, but should return a solid core of players and fans who will throw batteries at Santa if they have to.
Will the Eagles throw Adam Smith against us?
There's a nice subplot there.

Congrats to former Skip, all time winningest Ducks coach, TC Jones for getting a short story accepted for publication.
The Ducks lead the league in published writers.
I'm not linking any work here.

There will be a best of three series between the Wales and Campbell Conference winners to determine the AA Championship and the top seed in the League Tournament.
We have to win our division to have a shot at the AA title, this adds to the regular season what everyone making the playoffs takes away, in some regard.

This will be fine. The Ducks will be right there at the end.
The division title is huge as is the AA title, but the ultimate goal is the league championship tournament.

I have always been more of a baseball purist, so i am sad to see the traditional playoff format go.
Still now we can win the AA title and the League title if things fall into place.

Practice

Ducks, starting this weekend we will practice sundays at 1:30.
That's the only time i will definitely have free every week until school is over April 23rd.

The roster is just about set. We will compete for the title this year. So much for in-depth team previews i have had no time. Unless someone else with admin access wants to do it or someone wants to email me something, that may not happen until the season is already under way, which might help in the accuracy department. Although I don't even know what teams are in the league right now.

the Black Sox will be the best team on paper and win lots of games. there will be a fight in the stands when they play the hurricanes.

the eagles will finish under .500 Smith will get plenty of playing time - i wish him success against everyone but us.

I think we'll have a new team in our division who will probably be better than the new team in the other division.

this could be the year we get back to the conference finals. I want to beat the black sox on the way to the championship. that is our goal. Let's not count chickens yet.


Business:

Dues will be $200 plus plus the cost of hats, which i am in the process of figuring out. That includes umpire fees so we won't have to pass the hat before games.


I need your money by April 3rd. and the hat money by the beginning of the season.

The schedule will be released on march 28th

I will sit guys if they aren't paid by the time the season starts. which will be shortly after the 3rd. There's no one on the roster who will hurt us if they're in the lineup, we have plenty of depth on the bench. I don't think I'm even a starter at this point.

Things You See On St. Patrick's Day Parade Day

Well this Saturday is one of the greatest holidays ever, second only to St. Patrick's Day. Christmas sucks and Thanksgiving is OK (the day before it is better). In order to better prepare you for this Saturday, I've decided to compile a list of things you will definitely see.

1. Celtic Dancers These magical ladies are the equivalent to a prostitute on Valentine's Day, the holiday is just not the same without them. Unlike hookers, these ladies have class, are better dancers, and can definitely handle their alcohol. My only hope is that the rain doesn't scare them away this Saturday. On second thought... maybe a little rain would be a good thing.

2. Green Beer Damn whoever thought green beer would be a good idea. The last thing I need on the all day hangover that is the day after St. Patrick's Day Parade Day is having to call my super because there is a lime green substance overflowing out of my toilet.

3. Market Square
O wait no you won't. Screw you Luke Ravenstahl.

4. Some douchebag telling everyone how he is Irish

Listen, we all know you think your Irish, your t-shirt says so. Try going to Ireland and telling them your Irish, you'll have a bigger problem than my bathroom will have Sunday morning. Just because someone in your family moved to the New World 5 generations ago doesn't make you Irish. Your American douchebag.

5. A family friendly parade.

Ummmmmmm, Yeah, good luck with that.

3-07-2010 Rules Meeting

The managers of the Pittsburgh NABA met today for the third time this season at the Rochester Inn. Some light has been shed on the structure of the Rookie League.

• Each team's roster will be controlled by the league. So it will be kinda like the Washington Nationals, except cooler.

• Umpires could be supplied from the ranks of A and AA players.
• A and AA teams can scout and speak to rookies about joining their team.

New Team name Idea - The Dormont Danger Mice

The Ducks will lose 13 players from last year's team that went 16-8, and finished with the 3rd best regular season record in the league. We've added six new players, all of whom figure to make significant contributions.

I have no idea what is going on with the rest of the league except that the Black Sox have gotten better on paper at least, and are the favorites to take the title this year, despite the Fightin's having beaten them last season in the finals.

I think the Militia will enter the conversation at the top of the Wales Conference. I'm goins to miss having the Gray Bats to kick around this season, and the Rebels, who were the greatest thing to happen to this blog. they've merged so they should lead to some solid, intellectual baseball talk about their squad.

Adam Smith went to a division opponent, the Eagles, which is weird. He is the Ducks all-time leader in wins and loses. Homa has a chance to go ahead in the wins column this season, actually Guthrie might as well, I didn't really keep stats back then because we sucked for two and a half seasons.

There has never been a repeat champion in the Pittsburgh NABA.

I have the idea that to win at baseball you don't just need the best 24 guys, you need players to fill specific roles and to do well in those roles. But fuck, the last time i coached a team we went 8-16 and i wanted to slit my wrists. Then McCray and TC joined the team and we were on our way back into relevance.

this post is terrible. Division previews on the way, they will be completely fabricated since i have no idea who is playing where.

At least I can count on Kenny Powers to give me a solid paragraph or two on the SOx.

Jesse Smith and Kirk Gibson named 2010 Ducks Captains

Edit City...You can't be afraid of a major re-write

Jesse Smith and Andrew McCray will captain this year's team. They will be in charge when I'm working or whatever. I'm looking for them to be more vocal this season.

After today's team meeting the South Oaklamd Ducks officially welcome three members of last year's Wales Conference regular season champions: Rob Cool (OF), Anthony Defilippo (inf.), and Brendan Scioscia (C). This basically rounds out our roster pending late withdraws and Jesse Smith's buddies from fall ball getting their money in by the end of the month.

The Black Sox rivalry has risen to a new level with this move.
